Apple and Samsung have been engaged in heated patent litigation since April 2011, but it looks like resolution could finally be imminent.

On May 21 and 22, the two companies will meet in a San Francisco court to settle their differences. In contention: more than 50 patent-related lawsuits that have been filed in 10 countries.

Apple initially went after Samsung because its products were similar “beyond the realm of coincidence” to Apple’s iPhone and iPad. The companies have since chased one other around the globe, using their patent holdings as weapons of warfare in a larger battle for consumer electronics dominance.

“This is all a game of chess for them,” IHS analyst Wayne Lam told Wired. “Ultimately, in these patent litigations, it gets sorted out in the back rooms, and usually involves people and companies cross-licensing from one another.”

Last month Microsoft announced plans to create a concept car to inspire developers to build apps and automotive technologies for the future. Now, with the help of a company called West Coast Customs, Microsoft made good on that promise with this 2012 Ford Mustang.

The company took the vintage ride to the next level using all items available to anyone form their favorite electronics retailer, and a little code.

The Mustang has Kinect sensors hooked up to the front of the vehicle which can also be used to look at pedestrians or objects surrounding the vehicle. The sensors also allow you to log in from a cell phone from wherever you are and see what’s going on in front of your ride.

Facebook “likes” can possibly get you fired, and if you take your employer to court over the punishment you may have an uphill legal battle.

That’s what several plaintiffs found when they took the matter to the U.S. District Court for Eastern Virginia.

In the case Bland v. Roberts, the plaintiffs, who had worked in the Hampton, Virginia, sheriff’s office under B.J. Roberts, who was running for re-election against Jim Adams, asserted doing things to support their boss’ opponent eventually got them fired once Roberts had secured his seat. Such activities included placing a pro-Adams bumper sticker on one of their cars, attending an Adams-sponsored cookout, and “liking” Adams’ Facebook page.

The court said Roberts was not aware of these activities, except for the Facebook endorsements. Even so, his knowledge of the “likes” was inconsequential, said the court.

“[Roberts'] knowledge of the posts only becomes relevant if the court finds the activity of liking a Facebook page to be constitutionally protected. It is the court’s conclusion that merely “liking” a Facebook page is insufficient speech to merit constitutional protection,” the court said.

U.K. insurance giant Aviva Plc, mistakenly emailed a dismissal notice to the entire staff of its investment unit on Tuesday.

The email, which was sent by the firm’s human resources department to 1,300 employees around the world, told recipients to turn over company property as they left the building and reminded them of their obligation to guard the firm’s confidential information, according to Paul Lockstone, spokesman for the unit of the London-based insurer
